How to claim your tax rebate

Do it yourself

You can claim your tax rebate by heading online to the myIR website. The process is simple; you just need to follow these steps

  1. Log in to your myIR account. If you don’t have a myIR account, you can create one or talk to us.

  2. Select 'Enter donation tax credit receipts’

  3. Select ‘Add a receipt’

  4. Fill in the details (all of these will be on our receipt)

  5. Attach an electronic copy of the receipt

  6. Confirm your details are correct then select ‘Submit’

FAQ’s

  • You can claim tax credits for donations you make over the value of $5 to approved New Zealand organisations, such as registered charities and schools. As the Aoraki Foundation is is a registered charity, all donation over $5 are eligible.

  • You can claim 33% of the value of all eligible donations made over $5. However you can only claim donation receipts that add up to your total taxable income for that tax year. If your total donations were more than your total taxable income in a year, you can split your donations and allow your partner to claim the rest (up to their taxable income). If you are unsure speak with a local accountant.

  • You can claim online through your myIR account by uploading your receipt. The full process is outlined on the IRD website It only takes a few minutes. Alternatively speak with a local accountant from the list above, they can guide your through the process.

  • Yes — many donors do. It’s a simple way to increase your impact without increasing your upfront giving.

  • Yes — however most payroll giving automatically applies the tax benefit at the time of giving. Check with your employer if you are unsure.

  • Businesses receive tax deductions, not the individual rebate. Speak with your local accountant who can advise.
