Partner evening at Saikou

On a crisp Monday evening in Timaru, we hosted a memorable gathering for our valued business partners at the popular Saikou Teppanyaki & Wine Bar. Nearly 40 guests came together to enjoy a warm blend of gratitude, culinary artistry, and spirited competition, all in celebration of the collective generosity that fuels philanthropy across South Canterbury.

Guests were treated to a hands-on masterclass in sushi rolling and dumpling making, led by chef extraordinaire Jacob Stonehouse. Under Jacob’s expert guidance, attendees learned the delicate balance of ingredients and technique that turns simple components into edible masterpieces.

With sleeves rolled up, guests teamed into pairs to put their newfound skills to the test. Dumplings were folded, sushi was rolled—and competition was fierce. Jacob himself judged the creations, awarding culinary bragging rights to the top three teams:

  • 🥉 Third Place: Tina Rogers from Bidwill Trust Hospital and Nick Krivan from HC Partners

  • 🥈 Second Place: John Gregan, Aoraki Foundation trustee, and Sean Wilson from Bidwill Trust Hospital

  • 🥇 First Place: Our very own Kirsty Burnett, Aoraki Foundation Gift and Community Advisor, alongside Kristyna Havelokova from Raine and Horne Real Estate

The evening wasn’t just about food and fun—it was a celebration of community. Foundation Chair Richard shared insights into the exciting growth of the Aoraki Foundation and reminded everyone of the powerful role collaboration plays in strengthening philanthropy throughout South Canterbury.

A huge thank you to Jacob and Ola from Saikou for hosting such an unforgettable evening and to our Strategic Partners Oceania Dairy for sponsoring this event. Also, to our incredible network of business partners—your continued support helps shape a generous, resilient region. Together, we’re building a legacy where giving thrives.
