A legacy of service. An investment in those who serve.

The South Canterbury RSA Keeper Fund honours the legacy of Robert (Bert) and Patricia Keeper, whose generosity has created an enduring source of support for future generations.

Established through a bequest to the South Canterbury RSA, the fund reflects the values of service, commitment, and community that were important to the Keepers throughout their lives. Robert served New Zealand during the Second World War, and together Robert and Patricia were proud supporters of the South Canterbury RSA and its work.

In partnership with the Aoraki Foundation, the South Canterbury RSA chose to invest their gift as an endowment fund. This means the capital is protected while investment income is distributed annually, creating a permanent legacy that will benefit South Canterbury for generations to come.

What the fund supports

The South Canterbury RSA Keeper Fund provides financial assistance to eligible South Canterbury residents who are beginning service with the New Zealand Defence Force.

The transition into military training often comes with significant costs, including travel, equipment, and other expenses associated with commencing service. Through grants from the fund, young people embarking on a Defence Force career can receive practical support at a pivotal stage in their journey.

The fund aims to:

  • Support South Canterbury residents entering military service.

  • Reduce financial barriers for Defence Force recruits.

  • Encourage leadership, service, and commitment within our community.

  • Honour the legacy of veterans and those who have served New Zealand.

A lasting legacy

The South Canterbury RSA Keeper Fund is more than a memorial to one veteran's service. It is a living legacy that carries forward the values Robert and Patricia embodied: service to others, community support, and investment in future generations.

Every gift to the fund strengthens its ability to assist future recruits and ensures this legacy continues to grow.
